Overview
Zante Holidays
Zante holidays offer a true mix of ancient ruins, stunning beaches, traditional tavernas and vibrant resorts attracting holidaymakers’ year on year.
Celebrated since the time of Homer, Zante, along with its neighbouring Ionian Islands boasts beautiful beaches, pine clad mountains and dramatic coastlines. Rising out of the blue Ionian Sea between Greece and Italy, Zante, the most southerly and third largest of the Islands is clothed in a tapestry of vineyards, olive groves, orchards and wheat fields, creating a patchwork of colour that sets them apart from the barren rocky terrain of many other Greek islands.
A holiday to Zante really does have something for everyone. Sightseeing, sunbathing, water sports and wild nights out, it is clear to see why this Greek island is so popular with holidaymakers.
Holidays in Zante – the 'Fiore di Levante'
The “fiore di levanter” – the flower of the east – was the name given to Zante by the Venetians, who fell in love with the island for its charm and natural beauty. And it’s not hard to see why: Zante holidays are a joy to the senses. Let the sound of the crystal clear waters lapping the sandy shores soothe your cares away in your very own Grecian getaway.
Sea Caves . . . .
Board a boat and take a trip to the Kianou Caves, at the northern tip of the island. The unmissable “Blue” Caves, as they are rightly named, have to be seen to be believed. Popular for snorkelling, take a dip into the translucent blue waters that fill these magical grottos, for a Zante holiday you won’t forget.
. . . and Shipwrecks
Ships Ahoy! Zante’s most famous sight and picture postcard experience, Navagio is a must-see for any visitor to the island. The famous Shipwreck Bay can be visited by boat where passengers are dazzled by views of the white cliffs and blue waters. For a closer look at the wreck, which now lies half buried in the sands beneath the sheer cliffs, take a short boat trip from Port Vromi. If it’s an unforgettable picture postcard snapshot you’re after, follow the signs for the viewpoint for an aerial view of this beautiful disaster.
An Island Adventure
If you’ve yet to find your sea legs and want something sturdier under your feet, a holiday to Zante offers plenty to see and do on land to suit everyone’s tastes. An island tour will take you to some of the hidden secrets and beauties of this intriguing Greek getaway. Visit the Anafonitrias monastery, where the patron saint of Zante, Aghios Dionysios, spent his final days or take a pilgrimage to the ornate 14th Century church of Agia Mavra at Mecherado.
Top Zante Holiday Resorts
Laganas – As Zante’s liveliest and most popular resort, Laganas boasts one of the finest beaches on the island, with a sweep of golden sand gently sloping into the jewel-like, azure sea. As a nesting ground for loggerhead turtles, conservation measures are in place, making Laganas beach ideal for families and perfect for children. With the ban on watersports imposed, life on the beach is a relatively quiet one but the fantastic bars ranging from cocktail and karaoke to more sedate traditional tavernas create the liveliest nightlife on the island.
Tsilivi – A popular resort with holidaymakers of all ages, Tsilivi is the watersport mecca of Zante. The huge bay, with its mile-long stretch of soft sand, attracts windsurfers and waterskiers and offers an array of activities to suit everyone. The traditional charm provides the perfect destination for young couples and families whilst those looking for a livelier atmosphere will find plenty of shops, bars, tavernas and restaurants.
Kalamaki – Neighbouring the livelier resort of Laganas, Kalamaki has a more relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere. The soft sandy beach, set against a backdrop of pine-studded hills is another protected site due to the nesting turtles that visit year on year to lay their eggs, is ideal for those looking for a more tranquil holiday in quieter locations. There are several restaurants, bars and tavernas, though nightlife is more sedate than the most popular island resort, Laganas, which is only a short distance away allowing any holidaymaker to combine the best of both worlds.
