Top Gran Canaria Holiday Resorts
Maspalomas – As the oldest tourist town in the south of the island, Maspalomas has been a popular holiday destination for many years. Whilst the resort boasts a good selection of bars and restaurants, it is the beaches that draw the visitors to the southernmost tip of Gran Canaria. Maspalomas is famous for its photogenic giant sand dunes which provide the backdrop for a magnificent beach; life mainly revolves around the sandy stretches of golden grains and the shops that surround them. If this isn’t enough to keep you occupied there are plenty of sporting activities to choose from including golf, mountain biking and trekking.
Puerto Rico – This picturesque resort is surrounded by a very attractive family oriented beach of dark golden sands. Providing the perfect centre for water sport, there’s something for everyone. The focal point of the resort is the naturally sheltered beach which is great for young families with its calm seas and safe swimming opportunities. The bustling marina offers a whole host of sailing excursions, fun for all involved. For after-dark entertainment, there are plenty of eateries and bars to while the night away and dance till dawn. More on Puerto Rico.
Meloneras – Seen as the “up and coming” area of the southernmost tip of the island, situated on the outskirts of Maspalomas and a stone’s throw away from the famous dunes there, Meloneras is home to an impressive range of restaurants, bars and shops. Yet it’s not the sandy beaches that draw visitors to this resort. At the southern end of Meloneras, the terrain becomes less golden sands and more rural, providing an ideal place for cliff walkers and fishing enthusiasts who can laze on the rocks in the sun. In the evening the sunset is amazing, with silver seas twinkling against a background of red sky. For a bit of everything – golf, camel rides, water park attractions – Meloneras is nicely located to visit all parts of Gran Canaria and sample the delights it has to offer.
