Lanzarote Holidays, Spain
Overview
The most easterly and northerly of the Canaries is the sunniest and driest of the islands, and its beaches are amongst the best, with pale sands looking out over refreshing turquoise waters. However, Lanzarote holidays offer much more than sun, sea and sand. A quarter of the land is volcanic wasteland with its own harsh, fascinating beauty and as a UN Biosphere Reserve, it has been recognised for its unique character and the harmony between man and nature on the island.
With a holiday to Lanzarote, you won’t be short of things to do and see. Just 70 miles off the African coast Lanzarote benefits from warm winds, ideal for windsurfing and its golden stretches of warm sands make it an ideal place for sun worshippers.
A visit to the island would not be complete without a trip inland, to the magnificent sights of the twisted terrain, caused by the now sleeping volcano that forms the backbone of this island.
Holidays in Lanzarote – a sleeping beauty For children and adults alike, Lanzarote holidays are full of interest and entertainment. As a unique island with an unusual backdrop of volcanic rock and a lunar resemblance, you won’t find a holiday like this anywhere else in the world.
Timanfaya
This still active volcano last erupted in 1730 and left a vast area of Lanzarote covered in a
unique black desert of volcanic lava. What remains is the twisted, dramatic and unforgettable
scenery. Just below the parks highest point, at Islote de Hilario, the lingering volcanic heat
remains the hottest and it’s here that you’ll find the El Diablo restaurant, as designed by
Lanzarote’s most influential resident, César Manrique. As one of the highlights of any holiday
to Lanzarote, a visit to his magnificent national park is not to be missed.
Papagayo Beaches
On the south of the island, the beaches that cluster around the volcanic headland of Papagayo
are the most beautiful on the island and can only be reached by car or by boat. There is a
small fee to travel on to the headland but for the crystal clear sea, sheltered sandy coves and
dramatic cliff tops, it’s worth every penny.
Jameos del Agua One of the most remarkable sights on the island, the strange and beautiful environment of Jameos del Agua is a must for any Lanzarote holiday. This delightful subterranean world boasts a cafe/restaurant, dance floor, concert hall and a strange underground lake where the rocks are speckled with tiny blind white crabs unique to the island. At the weekend, Jameos del Agua becomes a club where you can eat, drink and dance the night away in these fantastic surroundings which the lighting makes even more spectacular.
Top Lanzarote Holiday Resorts
Playa Blanca – The relaxing resort of Playa Blanca offers a restful and unhurried
atmosphere, perfect for those wanting to get away from it all. Occupying a sunny, sheltered
position with exquisite, ever changing views across shimmering blue waters, the beaches in the
resort are certainly tempting but for the ultimate beach getaway take a trip to the protected
Papagayo area just on the outskirts of the resort. The attractive pleasure harbour of Marina
Rubicon is also a great place for shopping and dining in the evenings. More on Playa Blanca

Puerto del Carmen –The energetic resort of Puerto del Carmen is the busiest on the island, where shops, bars and restaurants line the long stretch of coastal road through the resort. With its youth-orientated nightlife there is still a lively, busy holiday scene during the day whilst still retaining a delightfully low-key, small town feel. Pleasant afternoons and evenings can be spent in the old town and port areas yet the resort is ideally placed for touring both the north and south of the island. More on Puerto del Carmen holidays
Costa Teguise – As the second largest resort on the island, Costa Teguise holidays offer a modern resort favoured by all the family. A great place for water sports, the resort is home to the island’s only water park – Aqua Land – and the rolling waves of Las Cucharas beach that attract windsurfers and surfers alike.
