Banks Open from 8.30am to midday and 1.30pm to 5pm Monday to Friday. Foreign exchange offices are the best place to change foreign currency, they are open 8.30 or 9am to 8 or 9pm Monday to Saturday.

 

Bartering In the markets, shops, carpet factories and with the street sellers, bartering is expected. As a general guide, offer approximately 50 percent of the asking price and then work your way up to two-thirds of the asking price. Shops selling designer labels have fixed prices where bartering is not accepted.

 

Electricity The voltage is 220 volts. The majority of appliances will operate with a two-pin adapter plug, which you can buy in most supermarkets. There are two diameters of pins, the smaller being the most common.

 

Police There are three types of police. There are the Jandarma (military police), the traffic police and the resort police.

 

Post Known locally as the PTT indicated by black and yellow signs. Stamps are only available from the post offices and PTT kiosks. You can also buy telephone cards, postcards and change your money at the PTT. Post boxes are marked with a white crescent moon and star on a red background, with the letters PTT in gold on a black background.
