Nestled on the north coast of Corfu, Roda is quickly becoming a go-to place for holidaymakers looking for a slice of authentic Greece- and while it's certainly not as bustling as some of the other well-known Corfu resorts, it's on the way up in the tourist hotspot stakes.
Not only is its Blue Flag beach one of the best on the island, but the turquoise waters that wash up on the sands are warm, shallow and crystal clear, too. Rugged hills and forests envelop the coastline, providing picture-perfect landscapes begging to be explored, while the main road that runs through the centre of town is a crammed with the restaurants, bars and tavernas that make up Roda's vibrant nightlife.
Whatever you're hoping to get from your relaxing Greek island break, Roda is bound to have it in spades.
Less than an hour away, the capital of Corfu, the aptly named Corfu Town, provides a combination of history, culture and nightlife that you won't find elsewhere on the island. Regular bus trips operate from Roda so you don't have to go far to catch your ride to the city. Whilst there, browse the range of shops, stop for a bite at one of the street-lined tavernas or just stroll the cobbled streets, admiring the views.
A perfect day trip if you're travelling with children, Aqualand is the island's largest waterpark and full to the brim with exhilarating slides and flumes that will get the adrenaline pumping.
While it may only be a relatively short boat ride away, as soon as you step on its shores, you will realise that Albania is light years away in terms of development. Unspoilt, natural and rugged, Albania's landscapes are simply breathtaking. Head for the ruins of Butrint as part as your visit, evidence of what was once an established Roman city.
Just outside the centre of town, you will find a horse riding and trekking centre that gives you the opportunity to saddle up and head for the hills on horseback. There's no better way to explore the landscapes than with the help of a faithful steed, which means you can take the weight off your feet as you go.
Walk Mount Pantokrator
Ideal if you're an early riser, the ascent to the peak of Mount Pantokrator is perfectly doable before the midday sun gleams down and makes the walk a little too unbearable. Wander through rustic villages and grab a refreshing drink on the way, the views that will meet you at the summit are completely worth it.
Get your Dancing Shoes On
The buzzing main road that runs down towards the beach is full of fantastic bars and clubs that will keep you dancing the night away ' perhaps a couple of ouzos will help get the evening going?
Once you've stayed in Roda you will see why it's moving up the ranks as far as popularity with holidaymakers is concerned. While it still maintains some traditional Greek charm, it also boasts a relaxing atmosphere that can be enjoyed whether you're visiting as a family, as a couple, or otherwise.
A little further along the coast, at the north-west tip of Corfu, lies Kassiopi. This a town that boasts picturesque scenes that would look perfect on a postcard, while possessing a great selection of attractions, including a Byzantine castle and beaches to die for.
