Forget France, the Venetian Riviera is where it's at! Stretching across the north east of Italy, this picturesque coastline promises a cultural, romantic and sun-soaked holiday all wrapped up in one. Start at the centre of it all, Venice, for your fill of watery canals, singing gondoliers and all that amazing history of Italy, before you make your way across to the relaxing Lido di Jesolo, a popular holiday resort thanks to its huge 15km-long beach. A trip to the Venetian Riviera gives you the best of both worlds.
Swap the sand for canals, the seafront promenades for St Mark's Square and the beachgoers for the bustling tourists. Lido di Jesolo is the perfect base to explore Venice ' just an hour's ferry ride away - and the Italian hotspot is close enough to experience first-hand, but far enough away to sneak in some peace and quiet time. Stroll through the winding streets and across the famous Rialto Bridge, brave the flocks of pigeons and tourists in St Mark's Square, be serenaded in a gondola and indulge on more pizza and pasta than you could have ever imagined!
To really see the best of the Venetian Riviera, make sure you stop by Caorle, a fishing town just north of Lido di Jesolo. Worlds away from jam-packed Venice, Caorle is a quaint village lined with coloured houses and cobbled alleyways. There are several historic cathedrals and churches, while the long sandy beach looks out to the Adriatic Sea and the town is particularly popular with children and families.
Soak up the sun
Lido di Jesolo is all about the beach, and what a beach it is! 15km of wide, yellow sand stretches before you, with bright sunbeds and parasols dotted across each private section. Simply choose somewhere you think looks nice, throw down your towel and you'll never want to move again. There are beach bars every couple of metres, convenient bathrooms and showers, and play areas for the kids. Just a word of warning - you'll never want to leave.
Spend the day at Aqualandia
The beach isn't the only way to escape the heat. At the western end of town is Aqualandia, a Caribbean-themed 'fun island', voted the number one waterpark in Italy. Aqualandia boasts 26 attractions, seven themed areas and five animation activities - as well as the world's highest waterslide and Europe's highest bungee jumping tower. There are also live shows, adventure golf, beach volleyball and a kids' disco.
One of the most popular resorts, Harry's Hotel boasts a great location, just 150m from the beach and right in the heart of Lido, within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel also has its own private beach area with complimentary sunbeds and parasols. Meanwhile, the on-site pool is equally as amazing, especially with its water massage fixture!
A family-run business, this four-star hotel oozes friendly service and traditional charm. Ideal for couples or families looking for some quiet time, Hotel Colombo offers guests access to the private beach, rooftop swimming pool, free bicycle hire, tennis courts and mini-golf course.
