Alcudia Holidays

GENERAL

Overview

Alcudia is the main tourist hub in northern Majorca and lays claim to one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. Enjoy the sun anywhere along the 14km of sand that stretches from Platja d'Alcudia to Can Picafort, or take to the water for windsurfing and paragliding. If you can tear yourself away from the beach then be sure to soak up some local history and culture you'll find Roman, Moorish and Spanish influence throughout the town. Alcudia is also the perfect starting point to see the rest of the island ' it's just a short drive to the nearby city of Pollenca and its famous port, while rural Sa Pobla and beachside Can Picafort are also worth a visit.

Places to Go

Old Town
As one of the most visited villages in Majorca, a trip to the Old Town is a must-see. Surrounded by a 14th century medieval wall, you'll find ancient remains from the Roman rule as well as narrow cobbled streets, packed with overflowing restaurants famous for their traditional home-cooked cuisine. Market days are Sundays and Tuesdays where you can find a variety of local wares, produce and delicacies.
Sa Pobla
When you've had enough of the usual beach scenery, catch the train to Sa Pobla to see a very different side to Majorca. A traditional farming village, Sa Pobla is known as 'the land of a thousand windmills' thanks to its collection of agricultural windmills and facilities. Experience first-hand rural island life as you take in the stunning natural scenery of the Serra Tramuntana Mountains and Villa Son Ferragut. There are also a few museums - including one of the largest toy museums in Europe - to keep the kids amused all day long.

Things to Do

Get wet at HidroPark
HidroPark is the biggest water park in north Majorca and is situated behind the beach at Port d'Alcudia. Slip and slide your way down the assortment of waterslides, suitable for children of all ages. There's also a 54-hole mini golf, bouncy castles, water zorbing, wave pools, paintballing and more. Fun for all ages!
Check out the Festival of St Jaume
If you can, time your stay around the first few weeks in July. The city is transformed as locals decorate the streets, homes and shops with an annual theme. For nine days, you'll be able to take part in traditional festivities, outdoor shows, tournaments and exhibitions - even Spanish bull fights! The closing night also features a glittering firework display and a huge outdoor concert in the Old Town.
