Tucked away on the northern coast of Majorca
, Cala San Vicente is a far cry away from some of the island's more popular destinations such as Magaluf and Sa Coma. It's certainly not the place to be heading if you're after energy, liveliness and fun at every turn. As far as tourists are concerned, Cala San Vicente accommodates them well but hasn't succumbed to overdevelopment. In fact, the beach on which holidaymakers bask in the sunshine is also one that's used by the local fishermen and their trawlers.
That being said, Cala San Vicente shouldn't be discounted as a place to head for a summer break in the Balearic Islands . For many holidaymakers, the relaxed pace is the very reason why they do decide to head here. Away from the hustle and bustle and bright lights of the buzzing resorts, small villages like this provide a much more traditional, authentic Majorca break.
The nearby resort of Pollensa is well worth a trip out of town for, especially as it has a few more amenities for its visitors. There are shops selling local wares and ceramics, narrow streets to lose yourself in, plus quaint cafés that spill onto the pavements for you to enjoy an ice cold drink. The area is also packed with superb walking trails that will bring you closer to nature.
Just under an hour away from Cala San Vicente is the island's capital, Palma, which is definitely worth a day of exploration. From the designer boutiques and bijou shops, to the history that exudes from its streets, Palma is a cosmopolitan heaven that will be enjoyed by all. The gothic cathedral and the Castle of Alaro are particularly popular spots, while the range of cafés and restaurants serving delicious tapas and paella will ensure that you don't go hungry.
S'Albufereta Natural Park
Located in the Bay of Pollensa, this breathtaking nature reserve would be a perfect spot for anyone with a love of wildlife, birds and the great outdoors. Ideal for birdwatchers and walkers alike, S'Albufereta is much smaller than the S'Albufera Natural Park but, while it lacks in size, it certainly packs a punch in the beauty stakes.
Chill on the Beach
If there's one thing that appeals about a holiday in Majorca, it's the beaches. With Cala San Vicente, you have a choice of three ' all of which provide warm, fine sands that are perfect for you to perch on for an afternoon of bronzing. While Cala Barques is the main beach in the heart of town, wander a little further and you will be able to find something even more secluded ' the Cala Clara and Cala Molins beaches are both nearby.
Snorkel in the Bay
Cala Barques beach is particularly reputable for those who wish to snorkel, with the rocks and outcrops around the bay being the sheltered home for a variety of sea life. You can pick up a snorkel from various places in the town and spend the day exploring the underwater paradise.
Explore the Talayotic Caves
The resort of Cala San Vicente is home to a network of cave dwellings that date back to the Bronze Age, which can be explored with ease during your stay. They are some of the largest and most important man-made caves on the island and well worth exploration.
Cala San Vicente
As one of the island's smallest resorts, it has resisted the temptation to overdevelop. Cala San Vicente is a great example of the traditional Majorcan lifestyle and a perfect, laid-back resort for you and your family to enjoy. From the quiet and relaxed dinner overlooking the seafront to paddling in the warm and calm seas, if you want to enjoy a break that's away from the crowds, you'll find it here.
As one of the oldest parts of Majorca, you can imagine the abundance of history that the resort boats. However, that's not all that Alcudia is good for. It has managed to merge the old with the new, with a swanky marina and a Blue Flag beach that seems to go on for miles. Whether you love watersports, dining in Dollar Street, or wandering the medieval town that takes your fancy, Alcudia has it all. While it's not the resort for you if you're looking for late night parties, great value Cala San Vicente package holidays appeal to others for all the right reasons. With Direct Holidays, you can see for yourself what delights this laidback lovely holds, for less.
