Kalkan Holidays

GENERAL

Overview

A stunning area of Turkey 's Lycian coast, the resort of Kalkan brings you face to face with powdery beaches and azure waters that provide a perfect setting for your Turkish holiday. With the Taurus Mountains as a backdrop and plenty of activities to keep you busy both by the water and elsewhere, Kalkan holidays are a perfect choice - no matter what floats your boat.
There's something incredibly magnetic about this Dalaman resort, which oozes quintessentially Turkish charm while also catering perfectly for its annual holidaymakers. As far as the Turkish Riviera is concerned, Kalkan is one of the sleepier and more sophisticated options available, with plenty of traditional appeal, including cobbled streets that seem like they wind on forever.

Places to Go

Fethiye
Fethiye is one of Turkey's most exciting tourist centres, with its natural beauty, appealing climate and friendly locals drawing in an abundance of holidaymakers every year. Home to the Tomb of Amyntas, Fethiye has plenty for the history buffs to enjoy too. Dolmus rides operate between the local areas, for a cheap way to explore further afield.
Patara Beach
Just a short distance from the town of Patara, this 11-mile beach provides soft golden sand for you to sink your feet into, and shallow waters to wade in as you look out across the Lycian Sea. With nearby archaeological sites of interest and as a breeding ground for loggerhead turtles, the beach is protected and breathtakingly beautiful.
Tlos Ruins
Situated near the resort town of Kalkan, the Tlos Ruins are considered to be one of the most significant religious Lycian sites. This hilltop citadel has a Roman amphitheatre, the remains of an Ottoman castle and some intricately detailed Lycian rock tombs that are well-worth a photo opportunity.

Things to Do

Take a Cruise in Dalyan
Clamber aboard a boat and sail along the Dalyan coast of Turkey on the way to Iztuzu Beach, a popular spot for sunbathers while also a nesting ground for the endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtle. The beaches in this area are protected for this reason, but tourists are welcome to explore, relax, and turtle spot throughout the year.
Explore the Sunken City
Located approximately an hour from Kalkan, the ruins of a sunken city can be found off the coast of the uninhabited Kekova Island. The ruins of this ancient town are truly fascinating, with this area of the Lycian Coast being home to some incredibly breathtaking archaeological and historical sites - including the crumbling remains of Aperlae in the nearby village of Kalekoy.
Barter for Jewels
Turkey is renowned for providing high quality gold and silver jewellery for incredibly affordable prices. Head to one of the sophisticated stores in Kalkan and haggle with the locals to bag a great price. Whether it's a gift for you or for a loved one back home, bartering is not just expected by shop owners, but thoroughly enjoyable too!
