At The Airport
With duty-free shops and wide range of restaurants available, it is easy to see why being at the airport is the start of some peoples' holidays. However, it can also be quite a daunting experience if you don't know what you're doing. So at Direct Holidays, we have compiled the brief guide below to help your time at the airport be as stress-free and easy as possible.
Leave Plenty Of Time
Always get to the airport early so that you can spend more time relaxing and less time
worrying about missing your flight. Also, being towards the front of the check-in queue means
you have a better chance of haggling for the good seats.
Depending on when you go, getting through the security checks can take a bit of time, so make
sure that you take this into account. Departure gates at some airports can also be quite a long
walk/trip from the main terminal building, so allow yourself enough time to get to the gate
without having to rush.
Know Where You Are Going
Most airports have a website so have a look at it before you go and familiarise yourself
with the layout. Some airports do not have flight calls, so find out where the flight monitors
are so you can keep an eye on when you need to start heading towards your departure gate.
If you're with your family and they want to explore the departure lounge shops and restaurants
on their own, let them know what time they need to be at the gate - you don't want someone to
get left behind!
Get Personal

Personalise your suitcases before you travel so that when you get to baggage claim, you can pick up the right suitcase quickly and not leave with someone else's clothes.
Suggestions for how to do this include coloured luggage straps, ribbons or even tinsel. As a final check, put your name and the address of where you will be staying on a luggage label and fix it firmly to your bag.
Get Your Bearings

After picking up your bags, the next step is to head for the arrivals lounge. On a package holiday this is where you will meet a resort rep who will direct you to the transport to take you to your accommodation.
Alternatively, the airport tourist information services (if available) will be able to provide you with all sorts of information, including a map to help you get your bearings.
