Ever brought a gift – or been given one – that’s started gathering dust straight away? Well we’re hoping that these tips will get you a different result.
Try leaving the Christmas hamper to one side this year and instead invest in some pampering sessions for your other half. Looking good on holiday is a must for many, especially if there’s countless beach parties and nights out to enjoy; exactly what you’re in for on Crete holidays if you’re a party animal. Vouchers for spa days later in the year, or hair appointments and fake tan sessions can all make your partner feel beach and nightclub ready, and they’re not just for women, men can get waxed and manicured too – we won’t tell. Amazon are advertising two-for-one Atlas Health spa breaks from buy-a-gift for £79, where you get can pampered with aromatherapy, massage and hot stone treatment.
This could be a bit tricky and has to be approached in the right way… you’ve been warned! Bronzed bodies, lounging in bikinis or shorts are all a given for those booking Tenerife holiday deals and breaks to other sunny locations. But if your other half is constantly saying they want to get in shape for their hols then tactfully buy them something to help, like a bike. Olympic Gold medallist Victoria Pendleton’s range of bikes’ for Halfords, including the £299 Somerby, were among the bestselling bikes for women in 2012. Also stay away from gym memberships that might never be used and opt for fun pastimes. Red Letters Days do a whole range of activities from Clay Pigeon Shooting for £65 for two, to yacht racing for £99.
The Last Word
E-readers are a great holiday gift because they save so much space in holiday luggage compared with books, leaving you a bit more room for duty free! Check out Argos deals on e-readers where you can get the Nook Simple Touch for £59 or if you want to splurge try the New Kindle Fire – £129 from Amazon and already in the top five bestsellers. Why not buy downloads about your holiday destination so you can both start getting excited about it?
Fun and Games
Lots of long-haul destinations are worth the flight-time, but kids don’t always agree. Even if they’re off on a Mexico holiday and a plane for the first time they can still get bored. A handheld game’s console can keep them amused. You don’t always have to go for the top brands; some consoles work just as well on younger children, like this £39.99 Monster High Handheld Gaming Console from Kids-Zone, which has 20 arcade games. For cheap family games you can’t beat a basic pack of cards; from Snap to Uno – have fun teaching the little ones some old favourites.
Back to School
Holidays that scream ‘activities’ might get you and your family/friends interested in a new hobby. If you’ve got an inkling that your other half might want to try surfing on their cheap holidays to Goa, or diving on an Egypt holiday, then you could book some lessons before you head off. Some companies – like GB the Surf School – sell vouchers for £35 that can be swapped for surf lessons – good if you’re getting others to chip in.
