Egypt has two seasons that affect the weather in the main tourist areas of Sharm el Sheik, Hurghada, Makadi Bay and El Gouna. There is a mild winter season from November to April when temperatures range from 15 – 25C. The scorching summer is between May and October when temperatures are between 24 and 38C.

Along with these high temperatures, Egypt receives very little rainfall. It is uncommon to see rain in the summer and there is just one day of rain per month in the winter. The rain rarely lasts long and is often a refreshing shower that is welcomed by all.

The best times to visit Egypt are usually considered to be the months of February to April and October and November. This is when temperatures average 22-25C making it perfect for both sightseeing and relaxing in the sunshine. Temperatures are perfect at this time of year to visiting the pyramids, touring the River Nile or exploring Cairo.

December and January are also popular times to visit as holidaymakers extend their Christmas break and escape the winter blues.  While it’s cold and grey at home, Egypt will be basked in glorious sunshine. Many visitors spend Christmas day on the beach, scuba diving and snorkelling or relaxing by the pool with a cocktail in hand.

Egypt’s hotels go to great lengths to ensure Christmas is a celebration to remember. Hotels are decorated with lights and festive arrangements while huge feasts are served. There will also be extra evening entertainment to keep the whole family happy.

Sharm el Sheikh is a great option for an all-inclusive holiday during the Christmas and New Year festivities. Guests enjoy gala dinners on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and the following day can be spent celebrating in the sunshine. This is a fantastic way to spend Christmas with your family.

Many couples choose to visit Egypt during Valentine’s for the ultimate romantic escape. Temperatures in February average 20C and the country is at its most beautiful after the slight winter rains.

Exploring all Egypt has to offer

If you’re planning to explore the desert then the winter months are perfect. Temperatures in the Sahara Desert can reach over 50C during the summer so guests prefer the cooler winter months to enjoy adventurous desert excursions. If you plan to spend a night in the desert at a Bedouin camp then the summer months may be a better option as temperatures in the desert can drop below freezing in some areas in winter.

Visitors who love the heat will enjoy Egypt during the hot summer months. This is the perfect time of year to chill out on the beach and take regular dips into the sea to cool off. Enjoy the array of water sports available like snorkelling, diving, parasailing, and water skiing, boating or canoeing.

Egypt is a fantastic place for scuba diving and these high temperatures ensure the water is ideal to spend hours exploring the stunning coral and tropical marine life. The sea in Egypt averages 23C during the winter and 27C in the summer. Most divers are fine in a 3mm shortie wetsuit, which is comfortable and flexible making it perfect for beginners.
